Karen Hiscock-King originally trained as a Scientific Illustrator at Middlesex University in the UK in the 1990’s gaining a 1st Class BA(Hons) degree. Following her graduation she worked as a freelance illustrator for world famous publishers such as Penguin, HarperCollins and Dorling Kindersley,  and graphic designer for the Fire Service.

Since 2010, Karen has lived in the beautiful coastal town of Broadstairs, Kent, where she has opened the incredibly successful New Kent Art Gallery & Studio. Here, she exhibits her own work alongside other Kent artists and makers and has developed an extraordinary reputation in her field.

Two years ago she was made a member of the East Kent Art Society and has been a Wild Card artist twice for the Sky Arts Artist of the Year Competition.

One of her aims is to bring art to all and use art to help local charities such as the Town Team, often auctioning work for Children in Need, NHS, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Karen is also one of the fabulous artists selected to design and paint a beautiful Elmer sculpture that will be featured on the streets of Maidstone in June 2021 as part of Elmer’s Big Heart of Kent Parade, raising money for Heart of Kent Hospice.

She works in gouache, oils, acrylic, resin and watercolour and loves experimenting with texture and colour. In recent years she has exhibited widely across the UK, with sold work going across the globe to the USA, Europe and Australia. Her work has been exhibited in Canterbury, Margate, Ramsgate, Sandwich, and of course London.
